Update from the Tomato Cage Building Day by Phoebe

Another amazing day working at the garden! Tomato cages made and tomatoes and peppers and basil and eggplant planted and lettuce transplanted. Beets and radishes thinned -- our 1st harvest of yummy "thinnings"!!! It really felt great to step back and look at the scene -- and it was really great that there were so many children of all ages working. I am always impressed with how well we all work together and how much gets done in a 1.5 hour time period.

THIS IS AN INVITATION -- AFTER THE FIRST HARVEST I WANT TO INVITE EVERYONE TO MY HOUSE FOR A POT LUCK DINNER. MAYBE WE BRING DISHES THAT INCORPORATE VEGGIES FROM THE GARDEN AND ENJOY A NICE MEAL TOGETHER!! DATE IS HARVEST DEPENDENT.

There was some discussion about wanting to buy more material in order to make enough cages for the remainder of the tomatoes -- it is an investment but that way we will have what we need for next year and we are already "trained" cage makers. Additionally, Larry suggested meeting weekly for a while in order to clear the vines and brush on the perimeter of the garden. What did we ever decide about having a steering committee to address issues like this?

Have a good week everybody!!! Phoebe
